ABOUT DOLORES

PHOTO COMING SOON

Hello!!!  I’m Dolores, the owner of Pennsylvania based D. McGee Design Studio, a floral design business specializing in Weddings & Events.

My first paid floral design job was for a friends baby shower.  I was thrilled she asked me to do the work; it was delightful for me to have a friend think my skills payment worthy.

I “earned a living” as a Human Resource professional which was a very demanding job but, I always found time to play with flowers whether for myself or friends.

There are 2 very favorite things I like doing when it comes to floral design; one is to teach; the other is a wedding.

I love being a part of creating the magic that only seems to happen at a wedding!  I love all of the planning that goes into it and the bustle of wedding day delivery and set up.  It’s exhausting but also exhilarating!

It’s incredibly satisfying at the end of the evening, to hear guests talk about how wonderful everything looked.  Those words validate a “job well done”!

For couples, a wedding day is a whole new beginning.

I always feel privileged to be chosen as a couple’s wedding florist.  It’s such a special day and I love being a part of it.  My whole focus is to bring a couple’s vision for their wedding day to life.

The flowers I use are of the highest quality; they are resourced from local growers as well as through international wholesalers who have access to those special blooms that cannot be grown in the United States.

Are you ready to start planning!??

More About Dolores

I grew up under my grandmother’s watchful eye; she instilled in me a love of arranging flowers, growing things and a love of education.

My path led me to PA where I earned a degree at PSU in American History, Government and Law….. a divergence from flowers for sure.

I got back on track with flowers and plants working part-time at a local floral shop, a local nursery and by immersing myself in a string of classes focused on how, why and where plants grow; are best harvested, preserved, manipulated and used to create unique arrangements.

My very first floral event job was 20 centerpieces for an annual dinner/dance hosted by a local corporation.

Shortly after that experience, I started getting calls for more floral work.  Some of the requests were beyond my skill level so I decided it was time to invest in some floral design classes and mentorship

I was very fortunate to participate in the floral design program at Longwood Gardens where I learned a lot of different techniques but also where I had the opportunity to meet and work with world class floral designers.

The people I met at Longwood opened up an opportunity to exhibit at the Philadelphia Flower Show.  My first year exhibiting, I took second place in an open pedestal class.  I was thrilled!!
